Wynyard, Tasmania: A place worth visiting

Wynyard a rural service center at the mouth of the Inglis River, which starts at en elevation of 500 meters and flows into the Tasman sea. Wynland has historically been one of the most important ports in Tasmania, and boasts of many beautiful timber homes. Relevant to the purposes of our class is the fascinating fact that in Wynland, the oldest Australian marsupial fossil was found. This place is known as fossil bluff and I wonder whether we will be able to take a trip out there in September. Another really interesting reason to go to Wynyard is that it is situated close to Table cape, which is a volcanic plug almost 200 m above sea level. I've always been fascinated with volcanic formations and this is the first time I have heard of the phrase "volcanic plug". It would be great if we would study this and other volcanic rock formations in Tasmania and compare this to other islands in its neighborhood and around the world.

  1. This sounds AWESOME! Volcanic plugs are such an interesting concept (literally a rock plug!) Hopefully we'll have time to visit this place.
