BICHENO

Bicheno is a small beach town on the east coast of Tasmania. Several kilometers north of Hobart, there are several great tourist attractions that I hope we'll be visiting. In this blog post, I'll describe several of the most interesting spots to spur your interest for the trip and give you a little knowledge about some of the nature we will be exploring!

One of the most beautiful spots is the Bay of Fires, a beautiful area full of secluded beach that's one of Tasmania's most popular reserves. With a vibrant orange lichen covering the rocks surrounding the beach, one of the most popular places within the reserve is Binalong Bay--inclusive of sandy white beaches, surfing, snorkeling, and of course, relaxation.

The second point of interest close to Bicheno is the Bicheno Blowhole. While the blowhole isn't, per say, special compared to other blowholes around the world, it is a remarkable work of nature, portraying the dramatic forces of the ocean. For those of you who don't know, a blowhole is formed when underwater sea caves work themselves upward towards the surface in vertical shafts. The result, as you may imagine, when a wave launches into the cave is a massive explosion of water, shooting into the cave and up through the hole. Like any blowhole, each explosion is unique, so if we do end up visiting this remarkable place,  be careful with your cameras because you don't know where that waters gonna go!

Finally, focusing on some more of the touristy aspects of Bicheno, the city is full of various attractions such as motor tricycle tours and a "great escape" wine tour! Regardless of what we do in this fascinating city, I'm sure that it's gonna be an awesome place to visit!

  2. there is a blowhole at one of my favorite beach spots in Laguna, back in socal! I've swam through it at low tide and its a lot of fun. If we end up at this beach (and Bob doesn't stop me), I'd love to give this one a shot!
